Dry Shampoo Changed Me

I am a changed lady because of dry shampoo. If anyone who knows me well or has lived with me, they would know I like to take showers and baths. That used to also include wash my hair every day and multiple times a day if I could. The washing my hair every day has changed. I still love showering and taking baths and that has not changed.

Over the last month or so I’ve really gotten into only washing my hair every other day. The reason I feel I now can do that is because of dry shampoo. I think I finally understand how they work and how they work best on my own hair.

My two favorites are pictured above. The refresh+care dry shampoo by Dove is great, pictured on the left in the white bottle. It smells fantastic and does not leave a white residue on my dark hair like other brands do. Dove is easy to find at drug stores and is fairly inexpensive. I’ve repurchased this same dry shampoo many times. The amika perk up dry shampoo is my all time favorite. It smells SO GOOD and has a light texture that doesn’t make my hair feel gritty. I order it online. This is the first bottle I’ve tried. Once I’m out of both of these, I will likely order another bottle of amika’s dry shampoo because I love it so much.

Here’s what I do. I wash my hair every other day, so on mornings I know I’m not washing my hair, I put my hair up in a bun on top of my head. I then shower as normal, but try my best to keep my hair dry. Then, when I get out of the shower I take my hair out of the bun and liberally spray the dry shampoo on the parts of my hair that I know get greasy. That includes my hairline near my forehead, ears, and neck. I then pulse or spritz in the product in the length of my hair and feel for any oily spots. Once I’m done applying the dry shampoo, I leave it alone and eat breakfast. I do not brush or comb it out right away. I let the dry shampoo soak into my hair and have found this technique to work best for me. Once done with breakfast which takes five to ten minutes, I brush through my hair and then will touch it up with my flat iron. Sometimes my hair is a bit crazy in the morning, so I have found I do need to straighten some of it again. Once flat ironed and straight, I check to make sure I don’t need any more dry shampoo. If so, I will add a bit more and run through my hair with my fingers. Then spritz with hairspray and I’m done.

This has definitely cut down on the time it takes to get ready in the morning as I am not using a hair dryer to dry my hair every morning. I also feel my scalp and hair are not as dry as they used to be. I feel my hair is getting healthier.

Do you wash your hair every day? Do you use dry shampoo? If so, what is your favorite dry shampoo?
